2024 Edition
The 10th edition of the Vendée Globe promises to be exceptional. In 2024, 40 skippers are expected to take the start of this solo, non-stop, unassisted round the world race.
Since the creation of this race, only 114 sailors have taken up this sporting challenge, the greatest of all time. It is not surprising that the public has renamed it the Everest of the Seas! Who will succeed Yannick Bestaven (Maître CoQ), the winner of the 2020 edition and write his name in history?
How to take part?
To take part in the Vendée Globe, the skipper and boat pairing must qualify. This enables the sailor's skills and the reliability of his project, but this also guarantees that the boats are sufficiently tested to complete a round the world race.
Each skipper must be at the start of at least two qualifying races on their IMOCA (one in 2022 or 2023 and one in 2024). He must finish at least one of them and his race time must not be more than one and a half times longer than the winner's time.
Qualifying races
- Vendée Arctique - Les Sables d'Olonne 2022
- Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe 2022
-
Return to base 2023
(Return race of the Transat Jacques Vabre) - The Transat CIC 2024
- New York Vendée - Les Sables d'Olonne 2024
If more than 40 skippers apply, a selection will be made according to the number of miles sailed while racing. However, there are two exceptions: the first 13 new IMOCA boats to start a qualifying race will be automatically selected. If there are more than 13, they will be separated by their ranking. The other exception concerns the Wild Card, granted by the organisation.
