No Let Up On Biscay

There is no let up on the Bay of Biscay and the north Atlantic. The depressions seem to keep rolling in, one after another.  And so the last few miles to the finish are no time to relax for the skippers coming in to finish their Vendée Globe. Vigilance and focus need to be at the maximum.

I don't know where the myth comes from that the doldrums are light to zero at this time of year. Long day and night of multiple sail changes with variable wind coming from the north to the south. Torrential rain which at least gave the boat a much needed rinse. The wind recently showed signs of turning north-east, but has now gone east again, so I can only assume that the doldrums are moving north with me.

That apart, all is well!

Clarisse Cremer Set To Finish 12th, First Woman and Break Race Record

Boisterous Biscay Last Challenge for Cremer...Beyou, Attanasio also in strong winds at Azores....
Merron crossed equator

Clarisse Cremer the 31year old French skipper of Banque Populaire X should cross the finish line of the Vendée Globe tomorrow during the day to finish in 12th place. For the prodigious skipper who seven years ago had not even sailed her first Mini class race it will be the high point of her rapid rise through the ranks in solo ocean racing, an extreme sailing discipline she chose over a career in business. As she passes the finish line off Les Sables d’Olonne she should break Ellen MacArthur’s 20 year old race record of 94 day and 4 hours.

Beautiful trade wind sailing yesterday. Not a single squall. Perfect for wiping the slate clean on the annoying last few days. The evil doldrum sky is descending on the boat. I'm trying to sail around the worst of it, but it's a bit of a lottery.

Lots of birds. During the night, there were six of them flying in the draught of the mainsail.
