Never say never

Ari Huusela on his welcome, his race and his pride in his team.

The last skipper to cross the finish line of the ninth Vendee Globe, Ari Huusela was given a big, warm welcome as he returned into Les Sables d'Olonne to complete the dream he has held for 22 years since he first sailed a 6.5m Class Mini across the Atlantic. Here are the words of an emotional, touched Finnish skipper who completed an exemplary race as an amateur skipper who races across oceans solo for his hobby.

Ari Huusela Finishes 25th, First Nordic Skipper To Complete the Vendée Globe, and closes the course.

When Finnish solo skipper Ari Huusela crossed the finish line of the 2020-2021 Vendée Globe this Friday morning at 08 35 46 hrs UTC to finish in 25th place on the solo non stop race around the world it marked the ultimate conclusion of an ocean racing dream which has occupied almost all of his spare time over the last 22 years. His elapsed time is 116 days 18 hours 15 minutes and 46 seconds and he closes the finish line  36 days after winner Yannick Bestaven and Charlie Dalin crossed.
