Champions All, The Vendée Globe Prizegiving Takes Place in Les Sables d’Olonne
Thirty one of the 33 skippers who competed in the 9th Vendée Globe mustered in Les Sables-d'Olonne today for the official prizegiving and closing ceremony which saw Yannick Bestaven (Maître-CoQ) receive top award as the overall winner. There were two further key announcements, the 10th edition will leave from Les Sables d’Olonne on November 10, 2024 and the sailors should finally have a chance to meet with race fans later this year, at a popular festival to be organised on Saturday September 25, 2021!

This Saturday 22nd May, the 9th Vendée Globe will crown its champion and heroes. A meeting behind closed doors, but which will be the subject of a live TV broadcast, from 3pm!
The updated IMOCA rule seeks to limit foil size and limit environmental impact and to contain costs. The new rules which are in force until 2025 were unveiled by the IMOCA Class last week. They are interpreted by skippers Thomas Ruyant and Romain Attanasio.

Back In 1997 Catherine Chabaud became the first female sailor to complete the Vendée Globe, taking sixth place and in so doing becoming the first woman to race solo non stop around the world without assistance. And for the last 20 years she has worked tirelessly, campaigning to protect ocean health and highlight the fragility and importance or our marine ecosystems. She has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2019.
